Chapter 01 of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

Chapter 01 of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is more like chapter 0, an exception chapter, since it is not a story that appears in the manga.

A chapter with an opening that is a showing of characters, and a song in two step-times

A chapter that is more to show how the characters are designed for this new version, and that shows it has been well done still the story in the chapter is interesting enough to keep you seeing it.

It also shows how the action animation sequences are going to be, that is well done, but is just a little above the ones from the first anime.

This chapter also shows that this version is going to use more of the styles used on the manga not showed on the first anime. Like how the Edward transmutations have his personal style, or the more egocentric Armstrong transmutation.
Also the use of silhouette frames during the comic gags, like in the manga. This actually helps a lot to set apart the comic tone from the serious ones.

Also a scene that says this time the animator are open to experiment a bit more, in this case by using only black, white and red in a fight scene with Brandley, that is really nice.


An ending that sees a very different animation style, that is really interesting to see.

A chapter that shows that this new version of the Full Metal Alchemist anime has potential to be great.


SPOILER ALERT, FROM HERE COMES A MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE CHAPTER.

The chapter starts with a villain, "The ice Alchemist" drawing transmutation circles, and Coronel Mustang receiving instructions to capture him, and to use the help of "The fullmetal Alchemist" for this mission.



Next comes a scene with Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse against the moon saying how this mission is a stop to her travel to Lior.



Here come the first opening of the anime that shows us a series of faces we already know.

The chapter starts with Elric brothers fighting the "Ice Alchemist" here we show the first comic gag in its more manga version, a classic parts of this series, the "Confusing Al as the Metal Alchemist, and saying Ed is small"


They capture the villain but he escapes, so Ed get reprimanded by Mustang, and is where we are told the Ice Alchemist, is an ex-soldier from the Ishval war, called Isaac McDougall, Hughes appears to take the Elric brothers to his home.

The half-cut shows slide images of Ed and Al



Coming back we see Armstrog fight the Ice Alchemist, but he escapes. Then at night we see Mustang finding him, a sure to be great fight between Ice and Fire, but turns out he escapes.


The Elric brothers find the villain, but here he activates a transmutation circle, and ice begins to show all around the city. A familiar face that perhaps is not shows.





A few fight and chase scenes, showing the villain creating more ice. A final battle between the Ice Alchemist and the Elric brothers, were he discover that they have done the Taboo, and we got a flashback to that scene were Ed and Al lost their bodies.

The villain escapes, by using his blood as water against the Elric brothers, but runs into Bradley were he will die in his final fight.

Meanwhile Armstrong and Mustang are destroying the transmutation circles around the city.

Before the chapter end, we see the homunculi Lust and Gluttony at Lior talking with someone over the phone.

Ending of chapter, with a very interesting animation style, and an OK song.
